Summer sun
Sunday 31st May 2009
I usually try to put something of interest in these blogs; either a game or film review or something on the topic of that wargame that we all waste far too much time on.
But this week I really can't think of anything; perhaps it's the fact that I'm a bit tired from work, or that fact that I've had a few beers. Or maybe it's because it's just SO damn sunny outside!
I'm not a huge fan of summer; like Hunter S Thompson I find it hard to explain myself in warmer climates; I feel I was built with colder weather in mind.
But still, it IS nice for a change, to be able to laze about in the garden with a beer and a book and just relax in the sun.
Anyway, I'll try and think of something more interesting for the next entry!
Perhaps you guys could suggest something!

New strip up!
I lamed out earlier, but I couldn't keep away! I hate leaving a strip half finished, and after some delicious BBQ jerk chicken (homemade) I managed to free up my writers block!
This strip sees the introduction of someone I've been waiting to put into the comic; Brianna's boss the Deathlord. I loved drawing this guy!
I always liked the Imperial Assassin models for 40k. When they first came out they really got my imagination going, with the idea of children being carried off at an early age and turned into unstoppable killing machines in hidden Imperial temples. Kinda like Shaolin monks crossed with nazi stormtroopers!
My favourite assassin temple is Eversor, hence why the Deathlord has more than a little Eversor-kun about him.
Later y'all.
Fifth Edition
Sunday 17th May 2009
So I finally picked up the fifth edition of Warhammer 40,000 and I have to say, I was expecting more!
Fine; there are now rules for running (the random element of which I'm not too sure about), taking cover in buildings and vehicle ramming finally reappears, but apart from that it's just fourth edition with a few minor rules tweaks.
The main point of the book seems to be the extra ladle-full of Grimdark that's been heaped onto everything.
"Oh no, the end is nigh!" The fluff chapters seem to wail, "This is it, the Imperium's screwed folks!".
It just seems to me that 40k has been getting more over-dramatic with every edition. I remember (man, did I just write that?) when the Astronomicon was failing back in second edition! And nothing's happened yet!
Personally I fail to see how GW will ever carry through on their threat of ending the Imperium. 40k will always BE 40k, and for one obvious reason: If the setting rolls over into the year 50,000 it won't be Warhammer 40,000 anymore, will it?!
Still, I'd be interested to see what they do with the whole setting and licence if they ever DID make good on their threats, although I'm not sure I'd really want to play in that universe if they did!
Star date... um... whatever

**CAUTION! SPOILERS AHEAD!**
I went to see the new Star Trek film on Friday, and it was as good as I was hoping it would be!
It was interesting to see how JJ Abrams had turned the movie into an effective 'system reset' for the Star Trek universe, with some time-travelling fubar altering the existing Star Trek universe enough for him to establish Kirk, Spok and the rest of the original crew's origins how he wanted.
One scene in particular made me chuckle when a character explains how what once might have been was now altered by said time-travel, pointing out how many events that could have happened never did. I almost expected them to stop the film for a second and the character look out of the frame at the audience and say "So stop complaining you trekkers! This is an alternate history, so there!"
All in all, it was a good film; lots of explosive space battles and Star Fleet goings on, with some nice little winks to hard core fans of both Star Trek and Abrams' other works.
But for me the whole film was worth it just for the final credits, which features a remastered version of the original theme tune.
Rock on.
Maintenance
Tuesday 5th May 2009
I've fixed a few minor bugs with the site, most importantly the link icons in the 'Extras' area now link to the site properly!
If you happen to be using one of those icons, please take the time to grab the code for them again!
I've also added Bob to the cast section of the 'About' page.
I'm thinking of drawing some more SotI wallpapers and banners; if anyone has suggestions for designs they'd like to see, mail them to me now!
